Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction in the book: Beyond The Dark Cloud

Beyond The Dark Cloud: Road to Recovery from Chronic Fatigue and Immune System Dysfunction written by Thea Schlosser, is the story of a woman who battled a very debilitating disease for 25 years, and lived to tell her story.

The author grew up in Germany during the World War II while experiencing deprivation, hardship, psychological abuse and fear. During this time, her family existed on bean soup and at the same period of time, she was wondering when the next bomb might fall directly on her house. After surviving the war, she won the national freestyle swimming champion of Austria in 1950. Later she became champion skier and ping-pong player.

Her ordeal started in 1960s after a severe infectious mononucleosis which triggered the Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction. The medical establishment knew nothing about the disease at that time and consequently misdiagnosed her for two decades.

The disease robbed her virtually of everything including her energy, she could not move or walk for a month at a time. In 1990, she developed a near fatal encephalitis. Her health deteriorated as she suffered massive neuromuscular pain, night sweats, headaches, and mental confusion. She was unable to tolerate any stress while going to the mail box was a major accomplishment. Her marriage failed, she went through a divorce, lost her business and later her home.

"I was one time a well-known and respected business woman, and finally reduced to the lowest of mental and physical health." - - - Author Thea Schlosser.

"Through it all, an image began to take form in my mind, and I knew that her story must be told, must be written, and that it must become alive with motion through the media of film....Thea is a heroine in an era where there are few of them. She is a woman who can be an example for others who are ill and lonely with rejection and abandonment, and struggle to survive." -- From the Preface by Lona Peoples, GriefWorks International.
